BFRB Podcast – Episode 1
|Welcome to the BFRB Podcast with your host Jose Alvear, LMSW. In this episode, I talk about body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) such as skin picking and hair pulling (trichotillomania). I also discuss how these disorders impact their social, physical and mental health. Finally, I open up about my own struggles with skin picking disorder and how I started the blog Diary of a Skin Picker and how I came to be the host of this show.

I have social anxiety, depression, autism and I’ve been picking my lip since I was very young. I’ve never thought of it as being as serious as other skin picking (like on the rest of the body). I also suck my thumb so it may be some sort of oral thing. Makes me feel better when I’m feeling anxious but I also do it when I’m just lying around.
